Bradley Elementary Home and School Club Meeting
Bradley Library
Attendees included: Bob Williams, HSB President; Lisa Dove, HSC Secretary; Jennifer Wiley, Parent Volunteer Coordinator; Carissa Medina; Kathleen Blair; Gabriela Wells; Liz Hansen; Lisa Fraley; Jana Stefanini; Jen and Sue Stewart; Bart Meltzer; Kelly Minnie; Stephanie Barns; April Nelson; Jackie Anderson; and Kathy Arola, Principal.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:
- Mrs. Gorman has been named to the 50% Vice Principal position at Bradley! Mrs. Yatson, reading intervention teacher, will be the team teacher for Mrs. Gorman’s classroom.
- The Bugle was reviewed.
- The Variety Show is in progress and will be held soon.
- New Enrichment Classes are being formed and sign ups are now.
- A “Thank You” will be printed in the Pajaronian for Driscoll’s.
- Kathy reviewed the Staff Committees for 2008- 2009. These committees will be highlighted in the semi-monthly Parent to Parent newsletter.
- The Bradley Blog Web site has been created. It will contain links to the HSC, School Site Council, and Spirit Activities. Sunny Nunez has been trained to use the Contribute software program and will be the point person for updating the HSC web site.
- Homework policy reviewed. The HSC committee made suggestions for this policy, which was reviewed by the Leadership committee, and then reviewed by the School Site Council. At this time, the HSC will review the proposed policy and any suggestions will be forwarded to the School Site Council..
1. HSC meeting called to order at 6:28pm. A quorum was present.

3. Approval of Past Meeting Minutes
9/2/08 minutes- Bart motioned to approve minutes. Seconded by Carissa. Motion passed.
10/7/08 minutes- Kathleen motioned to approve minutes. Seconded by Liz. Motion passed.
4. Treasurer’s Report
Holly was not present at the meeting. A handout was reviewed with the budget, banking report, and updates on transactions.
- Book Fair profits were $5205.00. Each classroom was allotted $175 to buy books from Scholastic. The remaining profit will go towards books and materials for the library. A committee and not the HSC oversees the Library Fund, although the funds are maintained in the HSC bank account.
- Fall Festival lost $32.00. This is not a traditional fundraiser, but seen as a spirit event. A $1500 advance (line #30 on the budget) as allotted for this festival. Since this line item budget was not all spent, any remaining funds will go back into the general fund.
- Reader’s Digest profit has yet to be determined at this time. Holly is working on acquiring a final amount.
- $57.77 was deposited into the HSC account from Escrip this month.
- In Feb 09, childcare will be started at 4:30pm to provide support for the School Site Council. This is budgeted on line item #19.
5. Old Business
- Fall Festival- Kathy reported that is was a fun day had by all. This is not a traditional fundraiser, but a spirit event. The bike raffle proved to be a success as it encouraged people to sign up for Escrip. April, committee chair, thanked everyone for his or her involvement. The scarecrow contest was also a success.
- Auction Report- Jennifer W. reported that the classroom coordinators have been assigned. Mrs. A’s classroom still needs a coordinator. Donation requests are in progress. The auction needs big ticket items, such a vacation stays or trips. The menu will be decided on 11/5/08 at 10am at the Seascape Golf Club. The next meeting will be on 11/18 at 6pm in the Library.
- Escrip- Kathy reported that there are 30- 35 new people signed up! The goal is to have 200 people signed up. Escrip will be advertised at Back to School night. There is also an Escrip credit card now available.
- T-Shirt Sales- Jana reported that they have 162 items ordered at a cost of $1924.00, which is prepaid. This is not a fundraiser. Budget line item #36 is dedicated to the student store. There was discussion about how much is left in that line item and whether or not to purchase some t-shirts for the student store.
- Campus Beautification- Kathy thanked the families that helped in painting the picnic benches and the hallway benches. The school district also provided three custodians for 8 hours on that day to do other campus beautification projects.
6. New Business
- Fundraising Discussion- Many ideas were discussed in regards to fundraisers for the school to include the following: Straw Hat Pizza Night- when a family buys a pizza a certain percentage goes back to the school; selling food one day per week at school such as pizza slices, popcorn, or tamales; Mother’s Day Cookbook sale; Corralitos Fun Run with a possible community BBQ; Drive by pick up of strawberries or flowers; spaghetti feed; themed family dance; parent annual fundraising buy out ; letter to community with specific needs and direct request for donations; raffle; community members to sign up for Escrip for Bradley; tiles with names; bare root roses fundraiser. The Fund Raising committee, Melissa Scott chairperson, will meet in November. Anyone who is interested can join the committee.
- Newsletter Content- Liz H. reported that the newsletter will include HSC information. One committee will be highlighted per newsletter. The WEB site will also be highlighted. Discussion was held about creating a list server for people who would like to receive the newsletter by e-mail. Kathy will explore this option.
7. Announcements:
- Grant Writing- Kathleen Robins will do a presentation/discussion at the next HSC meeting on 12/2/08.
- Grant Writing Committee is forming.
- Fund Raising Committee meeting will be held on 11/18/08 at 5pm in the library.
- Auction Committee meeting will be held at 11/18/08 at 6pm in the library.
- By Laws review. HSC members are invited to review the By Laws and make suggestions about possible addendums/revisions. Please contact Bob if interested. The first meeting will be in December 08.
