Bradley Home and School Club Membership Meeting

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
- Mrs. Arola discussed the Spelling Bee for Bradley and the winners and who will compete in the county competition.
- Mrs. Arola discussed the upcoming Science Fair. There are 179 science projects.
- School District Budget was reviewed. The budget is a very serious situation at this point. Discussion on how elementary schools may be affected: reductions in elementary assistant principals; library media tech terminated; clerical reduced by 50%; considering restructuring class size reduction in K-3rd; custodial reduced by 50%; reduction in transportation; furlough days; 10% reduction in supply budget; reduction in management at district office; and others.
- Mrs. Arola encourage all parents to fill out the Survey on Potential Budget Cuts for the Board to review on what each parent feels in important to their child. This will be tallied and presented at the next board meeting.
- Mrs. Arola stated that the school is low on paper- please donate.
- Homework Policy Report- School Site Council passed the New Homework policy for Bradley elementary. Please see Bradley Web site for more information.
- Meeting was called to order at 6:18pm by Bob Williams, HSC president. A quorum was present.
- Agenda- adopted.
- Approval of Past Meeting Minutes
12/2/08 minutes- Motion made to approve. Motion seconded. Motion passed.
- Treasurer’s Report
Bob reviewed the budget, as Holly was not present.
UNALLOCATED FUNDS- Donations have come in for Bradley HSC. They were not allocated. The HSC recommended that the monies be left unallocated until the state of the budget and the cuts to our school becomes clearer.
MESSENGER SYSTEM- The messenger system is not funded by the district. Funding for this system will have to be discussed as monies that were in place has been moved to another line item to cover an over expenditure.
- Old Business/ Reports
A. Auction Report- Jenny Wiley gave an update on the auction. There is a potential short fall in the dinner/dance of $600.00 due to not charging enough for each ticket. There is $11,000 in auction baskets!
B. Fundraising Committee Report-
1. See’s Candy- Collette Lee is chair of this fundraiser. Packets will go out in early March 09.
- Cook Book- Recipes are due by 2/6/09. The plan is to sell the books around Mother’s Day for about $12.00 each.
- Spaghetti Dinner- This will be April 25th at the Community Center. Possible sale of entertainment books may be then also.
- Pizza Night- Straw Hat on Freedom- date will be 2/19 or 2/26- fliers will go out.
- Summit for the Planet- fundraiser proposed to fund raising committee with Mt. Madonna School on April 25th- 5 K walk a thon. Bradley will get 70% of the profit and not have to do anything but get sponsors and show up.
- A parent is interested in selling stainless steel water bottle with Bradley insignia on them. Fundraising committee with make contact with him. May be able to sell them at the Spaghetti Feed?
6. New Business
- Grant Writing- Kathleen Robins presented about grants and grant writing.
b. Emotional Intelligence- presentation postponed.
c. HSC/School Budget discussion- A list of ideas for the school was suggested.

- A strategic plan for the HSC into the next 10 years
