BRADLEY HOME AND SCHOOL CLUB MEETING

Minutes for April 2008


In Attendance were President; Jennifer Meltzer,  Diane Avelar; Vice President, Sally Locke-Paddon; Secretary, Bill Bruce; Treasurer, Kathy Arola, Principal; Caryn Lane; Vice Principal, Jen Yatson, Kathleen Blair, Stephen Harrington, Heather Gorman, Lisa Cedarblade, Joni Martin, Kellie Mennie, George Alexandrov, Marci Ernst


Kathy Arola started the meeting at 6:15pm, with the Principal’s report.

 

Kathy updated us that the grant writing process has begun for a left turn lane into Bradley.

Aptos Junior High, Valencia Elementary and Bradley received a technology grant thanks to the efforts of Tim Landek. Bradley received 3 showcase classrooms with Smartboards. We have 6 additional computers and 36 computers are being refurbished.

Kathy talked about the Budget Advisory Committee, which is working on fine tuning the cuts. Cuts are being made in all areas.

 

Home and School Club Meeting began at 6:40pm, with a welcome to all by President. 

 

Minutes from March were approved with a 1st motion by Kellie Mennie and a 2nd by Bill Bruce. The vote was unanimous.

 

Treasurer’s Report was given by Bill Bruce. See’s fundraiser went well and a deposit of $3707.11 was made, and it is a 50/50 split.

 

Kellie Mennie made a motion to bring the funds for 6th grade graduation back up to $350.00, Lisa Cedarblade 2nd the motion and it was passed.

 

It was reiterated that parents need to turn any receipts in 60 days after purchase. HSC needs to change all forms to state that.

 

Old Business:

 

1.)    Jennifer Meltzer thanked Collete Lee, Mrs. Golbek and Carrie Marquez for all their efforts on the See’s Candy Fundraiser. Colette said she is willing to chair next year if the club wants to do the fundraiser again.

2.)    Spring festival is moving along. It is Sunday, April 20th. The theme is Celebrate the Earth With The Bradley Bears.  Mickey Magic will perform. There will be pony rides and a Farmer’s Market. Sally will do the food and smoothie stations. The district will dig holes to have trees planted in front of school.

3.)    Parents on Campus had no one at meeting to report on progress.

 

4.)    The Alliance structure worked well and $120.00 a year will be added to the “other” column to extend to Site Council meeting times. Home and School will now offer childcare from 5-8 PM to cover both meetings.

5.)    Open House and burrito dinner is set for May 8th. Burrito Dinner is $5.00 per person and no pre-orders this year.

6.)    Heather Gorman, Bill Bruce, Sally Locke-Paddon agreed to be the nominating committee for new Board Members for the 2008/2009 school year.

New Business:

 

              1.) Kathy Arola expressed the need for a volunteer for the Salad Bar from 11-12:45pm on Tuesdays.

 

              2.)Members would like to have a Home and School Club Link. Doug Evers wants to have a program purchased called “Contribute”. This program would allow staff to maintain the Bradley website. Home and School would have a parent or other volunteer to maintain our link on the website. This would allow us to announce our programs like escrip etc.  He will present at the May meeting and discuss costs and implementation.

 

               3.)Heather Gorman proposed having the Home and School Club meeting at 4pm, 3 times a year to have more teacher attendance. Next year’s Board will have to look at that.

 

               4.) Sally talked about how successful the Wizard of Oz was.

 

                5.) Jennifer Meltzer discussed the need for an E-Script coordinator. Kathy has agreed to monitor it.

 

                6.) It was agreed to do a 50/50 split for the insurance premium of $550.00 a year, with a 1st by Heather Gorman and a 2nd by Bill Bruce. It was passed unanimously. This amount will be added to the “other” column of to be taken off the top before the 50/50 split.

 

              7.) There will be a teacher’s appreciation lunch put on by the Home and school club on Wednesday, May 7th.

 

                 8.) Ms. Yatson gave a presentation on the Reading Intervention Program with numbers reflecting students served. The teachers want to do a fundraiser for it and asked the Home and school club to commit $2,500.00 to the program. Steve Harrington made a 1st motion, with a second by Christine Jacobs. Heather made a motion for $4000  with a 2nd by Christine Jacobs. A vote will be taken at the May meeting on both figures.

 

Meeting adjourned at 8:10pm

 

The next meeting is the first Tuesday in May 6.
