Call to Order:  Kathy Arola called the meeting to order at 4:50 p.m.

Introductions:  All members introduced themselves.  Alison Hoff commented that she and Jennifer Goodheart are sharing the position, however, due to time constraints they will need to drop in January 2007.  Heather Gorman had shown interest in replacing them on the Council. Staff will vote.

Approval of Minutes:                Alison Hoff                               moved

                                                Debbie Puente                          seconded

North Zone Report:  The North Zone Advisory Council will be meeting at Bradley this year due to construction at the high school.  The council meets the first Monday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m. (except September because of the holiday, the meeting will be held next Monday).  April English will be going as staff representative.  Site Council also should be sending a representative.  Please let Kathy Arola know if you are interested in being the staff representative.

Curriculum Council:  District Curriculum Council meets one time a month.  Kathy Arola plans on attending the meetings and reporting back to staff and Site Council.  Curriculum Council decides things such as new textbook adoptions.  This year is a new Social Studies adoption.  Next will be Math.

Traffic/Safety:  Corralitos Road has absorbed the Amesti Road traffic due to the landslide, and Amesti Road is not planned to reopen.  Ellen Pirie walked the grounds in August along with traffic specialists from the County and school administrators.  They are working up an improvement plan for traffic flow.  The turn signal was not approved; however, it will be brought up again next year.  The committee (Ellen Pirie and traffic specialists) is asking Bradley to make “internal improvements” which they will suggest in a report to the District.  Barry Wallace drafted a letter to the CHP requesting increased enforcement during high traffic times at Bradley.  The letter was approved by a vote of the membership, all members signed, and it will be mailed out.

Grant Money/Budget:  One time only grants coming from the State.  Kathy presented us with an outline of the grants.  The first two need Site Council approval, and if required, an amendment to the School Plan.  The first is a discretionary block grant of $56 per child.  Staff is putting together ideas to present to Site Council for their approval.  The grant must support or improve student achievement.  If you have any ideas, get them to Kathy.  She will try to get a draft of the proposal to us before the next meeting.  The second is for Instructional Materials:  Library/Ed Tech for $8,148.  Ideas are to supplement the STAR and Accelerated Reader programs and the computer lab.  Visual and Performing Arts Grant:  Not yet set.  PE:  Playground/Gym:  Not yet set, but must be for infrastructure.  Safety Grant for $9,000.00:  Hope to use for disaster preparedness, setting a central storage area for disaster supplies; ladders, walkie talkies, etc.  The last grant is Prop 49: After School For All; this also has not yet been set, but it does not just have to be for low readers/remediation, but for whatever after school enrichment we want.  Also, we are hoping to get after school math enrichment.

Election of Officers:  The following officers were elected for the 2006-2007 Site Council:

                        President:                     Andrea Carlos Willy

                        Vice President: Steve Harrington

                        Secretary:                     Kathleen Blair

State Test Scores:  Bradley’s API remains stable at 811 (812 last year).  Bradley met all of its AYP goals for all subgroups.  Thank you letter from Dr. Gary Woods was handed out, as well as comparison to last year of test scores in all subjects per grade level.

Progress of EL’s:  Charts prepared by Jennifer Fish, Bilingual Resource Teacher, were handed out.  Bradley now has 23% Second Language Learners, which is triple the amount it was 3 years ago.  Jennifer expects to transition 7-11 students this year, which is a very good rate.  Caryn Lane noted that Jennifer transitions only when students have fully met all criteria necessary for transitioning.  We have Jennifer at 50% as our Bilingual Resource Teacher, an aide 5 hours, 5 days a week, and a migrant teacher from the District 1 day per week.

No Child Left Behind:  Impact:  Students from low performing schools are allowed to transfer to high performing schools, which Bradley is.  Last year we got 8 students under this program.  We don’t know yet for this year; applications will be considered in the next  few weeks: space available.  We  do have space in K and 2nd grade.  Bradley has 562 students right now.

Parent Survey Results:  Results of last year’s parent survey were passed out.  Great results.

Principal’s Report:  Thank you to those who helped clean out the barn in June.  Great 4th of July parade.  Back to school is tomorrow night.  Committee of teachers are being trained through the county to participate in the County Waste Free Coalition.  We will be recycling everything.  Concrete pad poured in garden area for student getting Eagle Scout credits.

Adjournment:  Meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m. with the Principal’s Report at the Home and School Club.  Next meeting is Tuesday, October 3 at 4:45 p.m.
