North Zone Advisory Report: Barry Wallace reported on last night’s North
Zone meeting. Terri Eastman brought new
science textbook samples to the meeting that the District is considering for
the next textbook adoption. Principals
that were there gave their Principal’s Report.
New graduation requirements were discussed – to “walk” you will need all
your credits plus pass the exit exam.

Curriculum Council: Science textbook adoption was discussed. District writing assessments
and math assessments are taking place. Will be scanned with new Edusoft software. Writing is done and will be scanned at
Bradley. Big discussion is the Norm Gold
report on the EL program in the District.
Copy of the report was handed out.
There are seven findings and recommendations in his report. The findings are listed in the order that the
recommendations should be implemented.
Why are the decisions that are made being made? Decisions being made are coming from the
state and outside, not the District. A
main comment was that N. Zone needs to be involved with decisions being made
District wide. Other findings were that
leveling by proficiency with ELD will standardize practice and including an
extended day kindergarten.
GATE Advisory Council: Andrea spoke about the new Vision, Mission
Statement and Philosophy that are being drafted for the GATE program. The GATE program plan is being reviewed and
parent input is being sought. Next GATE
Advisory Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 8 at
Enrichment Program: Parent
to Parent lists all current classes being offered. Working on handbook for
instructors. Want to thank staff
members for opening up their classrooms to the after school enrichment
activities.
Discretionary Block Spending Update: Music set at 1 per grade level is coming in
bit by bit. There was money set aside
for in-service and as soon as we have entire program, that will be
arranged. Fiction and nonfiction books
for struggling readers were ordered and they are being leveled by Terri.
Traffic/Parking Solution: Meeting last week, but the County could not
make it. Back to needing funding, and
not getting follow through on promises.
The same plan is still on the table.
Kathy will continue to try to get group together.
School Vision. Staring with the School
Plan process. Look at the school
Vision to make sure plan is in alignment.
Teachers came up with supporting actions for all areas of the Vision and
these comments were handed out to SSC.
Principal’s Report: Patrick Dunning Assembly was a big hit. CATS musical is
March 23 and 24. Progress Reports go
home Friday with AR report. State tests
will be administered after Spring Break.
12 projects are going to the County Science Fair on March 17. Hannah Landry, 6th grader, won the
North Zone Spelling Bee last week.
Funding is almost complete for Sports Complex at Aptos High, with money
donated by Trent Differ in memory of his son.
Received thank you from Second Harvest Food Bank for
food collection. Student Council
starting “Pennies for Patients” drive for leukemia patients.
