North Zone Advisory Report:  Barry Wallace reported on last night’s North Zone meeting.  Sharon Gray (outgoing board member) was acknowledged for her years of service to the Board of Trustees.  The new deepwater pool at Aptos High is open.  Each principal gave their report.  Presentation regarding the state of the libraries in the District.  Outdated materials at many libraries.  In the last 10-15 years funding has gone from $18.00/student to $.40/student for libraries.  An Aptos High parent made a presentation at the meeting regarding teaching Algebra at a younger age.  He is a new parent to the District and has lived in many places, and from his experiences and research he’s done he feels that Algebra should be taught at a younger age.  The new PVUSD board member Libby Wilson was at the meeting as well as County Trustee Kathy Mann.

Curriculum Council:  Kathy handed out the agenda from the December meeting.  Edusoft – teachers will be using for interim assessments during the year instead of waiting until the end of the year – it is easier to use for assessments as it scans the data from scantron tests and gives quick “turn around” results.  Debbie Puente was at the February 1 meeting and commented that ELD was the focus, and the District is waiting for a report from Norm Gold to provide recommendations to the District. All district school will get new ELD curriculum.

Internal Scan:  School Corrective Action Plan has been made for the site after the teachers visited one grade level above and one grade level below their grade.  Findings were handed out.  Some of them were:  teachers want more opportunities to visit more classrooms and want more articulation across the grade level, and students need more reading at their individual levels. This will be used in the school plan up-date process this spring.

Safe School Plan:  Last year’s plan was handed out.  Please get any comments to Caryn Lane by February 23.  At the end of the meeting, we had time to review the plan together and got through page 8.  Any other comments, please get to Caryn.

Enrichment Program:  Handout of all offerings for Winter 2006/2007.  Also, see the enrichment glass case near the principal’s office. This is an outstanding model which others schools are interested in copying.

Traffic/Parking Solution:  Still in first phase (back parking lot) – planning.  A meeting is set with District personnel on February 20 and then on March 1 with Ellen Pirie and county representatives.

GATE/ELD:  Kathleen Blair commented that she and Andrea had been attending GATE Advisory Council meetings where they are working on a new Vision and Mission Statement for the GATE program, as well as the GATE Plan (input into the Plan is encouraged from any GATE parent or staff member).  All GATE parents received flyers about the meetings.  There is funding for the GATE program through the ELD because the focus is differentiation that will help all students.  Teachers across the district are getting GLAD training.

Principal’s Report:  The three winners from the Spelling Bee will go to the North Zone Spelling Bee on March 1.  See the winners on the Bradley website.  The Science Fair is next week and will be judged by members of the community (former science teachers, etc).  Visitation is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 14.  Mid-trimester – progress reports went out to students in Grades 4-6 with D’s or F’s so they can work on getting their grades up before the end of the trimester.  Home and School Club paid for two assemblies where students from grades 4, 5, and 6 were brought up on stage to be actors .   The students made a thank you poster to the Home and School Club.  The spring musical is CATS and 45 students are participating.  Show will be at the end of March.  Teachers are giving STAR reading assessments to send home with the next  report card.  Parents will know their students A/R level.  Parent surveys went home – remember you can do them online.  Visit our Bradley website – the results of the survey will be there.  The school handbook has also been scanned and is on our website.

Adjournment:  Meeting was adjourned at 5:55 p.m. with the Principal’s Report at the Home and School Club meeting.

Next meeting is Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 4:45 p.m.
