School Site Council Minutes

 

Members Present:  Kathleen Blair, Andrea Carlos Willy, Steve Harrington and Kathy Arola

 

Call to Order:  Andrea Carlos Willy called the meeting to order at 5:10 p.m.

Traffic/Parking:  Andrea starting collecting data, but held off on writing letter to District and County when the plan changed.  Kathy shared emails from parents expressing thanks and concerns regarding the new traffic plan (both positive and negative comments).  Most of the negative comments were about the no left hand turn, which was reversed by the second morning.  The three pluses of the new plans are: 1) moving the buses to the portables away from the car loading and unloading area; 2) locking in cars parked in dirt area in front of the school after 7:20 a.m. (no backing out onto Corralitos Road during peak traffic times); and 3) more utilization of the back parking lot.  Two questions that remain:  1) the safety of having two loading and unloading lanes; and 2) rainy day plan.  These issues will be looked at further, with the possibility of putting in an awning over the hallway between the portables for rainy day loading of buses.  We will continue with the new plan through the winter break, and if all goes as planned, the lots will be repainted over winter break and we will continue with the new plan.  

 

PE/Music/Arts Grant:  We are on Plan G, which the teachers agreed to.  Was presented at the meeting as an action item.  See handout for specifics.  Andrea will prepare email to all members for an email approval of this action item.  All members present voted yes to the Plan.

 

Principal’s Report:  Winter program Friday, December 21 at 8:15 a.m.  TOPS Assembly last Friday and 5 different types of awards were handed out.  120 students received perfect attendance awards for the 1st trimester.  Carson Evers put up the bench which the Home and School Club helped fund.  Kids are getting geared up for the Spring Musical and tryouts will be before winter break.  Gave a presentation about the new traffic and parking program.

 

Adjournment:  Meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m. with the Principal’s Report at the Home and School Club meeting.  No meeting in January.  Next meeting is Tuesday, February 5, 2007, at 4:45 p.m.
