Traffic/Parking Meeting: Meeting held last month with School, District and County. Bradley has the most intradistrict transfers of any school in the District – 1 of 5 students. Focus: safety, parking and traffic. First phase of the plan is to separate the buses and cars with all curbside bus loading in front of the school (lose 12 parking spaces) and parent drop off and pick up in front of the portables (lose 20 parking spaces). There will be more parking in the back of the school. Phase 1: Back parking lot gets new lighting and restriping to allow more parking in the back; several teachers will need to park in the back. Phase 2: sandblast and repaint in front of the school. Phase 3: sandblast and repaint in front of the portables. These are all internal changes. Once that is accomplished, the County applies for an Air Quality Grant in order to get funding to make a third lane in front of the school. A map was handed out laying out these proposed changes. There were several concerns by Site Council members, with the general feeling that these changes will not improve parking or traffic flow. Doug Evers and Andrea Carlos Willy are going to draft a letter to the County and District addressing our concerns.
PE Grant: $35,000.00 grant which will allow us to have a PE teacher in the lower grades for a few years. We will 50% PE teacher. Standards based instruction. Not release time for the teachers, but the teachers will be trained during the PE instruction for sustainability.
PE/Arts Grant: Plan D and Plan C got the most votes by the teachers, but two more plans were then formulated. Teachers will again vote at next week’s staff meeting. We have two years to spend this grant.
Website Software: Doug Evers told us about “Contribute” software by Adobe which makes it very easy to manage a website; this software is free through the District as long as you use it on a District computer. This idea will be taken to the Tech Committee. However, we may be getting something similar through the SWEET Grant and we don’t want to duplicate efforts.
Services to EL’s: DRAFT Master Plan: Kathy handed out the Draft Master Plan and asked that we review it and get any comments in (instructions on the document handed out) by November 19, 2007.
Principal’s Report: Two assemblies on Friday – Spirit of America; thank you to the Home and School Club for funding. November 15 and 16 is Variety Show. Community of Readers is tomorrow – 35 readers. Mike Heffner is the new North Zone Superintendent. Several grants and funding: $35,000.00 PE Grant, Walk for the Arts was again successful, and Technology grant.
