Positive Discipline: Jane Weed-Pomerantz gave a workshop to the
teachers. We are building a resource
library. Workshops centered on 5
criteria for discipline - self esteem building rather than
negative/punitive. Teachers gave their
feedback on the seminars. Bing Shaw, through Adult Ed, is giving two workshops
for parents. Grades K-3 on October 10
and Grades 4-6 on October 11. Adult Ed
had agreed to pay Bing’s fee, but now they are only paying $200 of the $300
total for the two seminars. Motion was
made by Andrea and seconded by Barry asking that Kathleen Blair on behalf of
Site Council make a motion at Home and School Club that they contribute the
$100 to pay Bing Shaw’s fee. (It is
noted that this motion passed at the Home and School Club meeting following the Site Council meeting.)
North Zone Report: Barry Wallace is our North Zone Parent
Rep. The API Reports were the focus of
the meeting. North Zone did a fantastic
job. Noted that Math
and Science are falling by the wayside both nationally and locally. Want to integrate it into curriculum more and
collaborate with community groups. Talk
of GATE funding issues. Principals were
asked to report on what was offered at their schools for GATE and chart with
responses were handed out. Discussion regarding
GATE – Differentiation Volunteer Corps: Andrea presented information about the
DVC. Teachers filled out questionnaires
where they can request assistance from parents in their classroom. Purpose is to provided
help to the teachers so they can differentiate for GATE. Andrea will be following up and matching
teachers to parents.
Curriculum Council: No report; no meeting since our last meeting.
Block Grant Proposal (Action Item): Proposal by the teachers as to how to spend
the block grant money was presented to the Site Council. Fifty percent would be spent on reading
materials to support struggling readers and fifty percent would be spent on a
standards based music curriculum. Barry
Wallace made a motion, Steve Harrington seconded, and it was passed by Site
Council to submit the proposal by the teachers to the District for approval.
Traffic/Safety: Letter signed by Site Council sent to CHP and
copy was handed out. The County Planning
Department under Ellen Pirie’s direction sent a plan to the District for
traffic and safety issues at Bradley. We
are waiting for response from District.
All Call System. We will be getting a full system in the
future. Major rewiring will need to be done to make it a two way system. For the interim, we will be getting a one way
